Marco Ariano is percussionist, sound researcher, “composer of improvised music”. He writes pieces that imply poetry and staging elements as well as sound, finding out musical production strategies, walking down a path along the border of music and philosophy. Among his many performance pieces, installations and mixed media works: "La Vacuità Splendente", "Sentire Offerente", " Degli Insetti – entomofonie immaginali".
He has collaborated with some of the most relevant musicians and artists in the contemporary scene: Alvin Curran, Antonello Neri, Elio Martusciello, Jamilia Jazilbekova, Tom Harrell, Mike Mainieri, Vincent Courtois, Roberto Bellatalla, Don Moye, Marcello Sambati, Jennifer Scappettone, Marco Giovenale, Isabella Bordoni, Andrea Cusumano.
He founded or co-founded improvising groups as diverse as Xubuxue, Difforme Ensemble, Opera Mutica.
He is percussionist and lecturer at the Accademia Nazionale di Danza, Rome.
Dr. Erin Brannigan is Senior Lecturer in Dance at the University of New South Wales and works in the fields of dance, visual arts and film as an academic and curator. Her recent publications include 'Moving Across Disciplines: Dance in the Twenty-First Century' (Sydney: Currency House, 2010), 'Dancefilm: Choreography and the Moving Image' (New York: Oxford University Press, 2011) and 'Bodies of Thought: 12 Australian Choreographers,' co-edited with Virginia Baxter (Kent Town: Wakefield Press, 2014). Her current research projects are Experimental Humanities (Arc DP 2013-2016 with Edward Scheer and Stephen Muecke), After Rauschenberg – Composition: Movement: Experiment (with choreographers Matthew Day and Lizzie Thomson), New Paradigms for Performance Pedagogies (UNSW T&L Grant with Bryoni Trezise) and Dancing Our City (with Julie-Anne Long and Amanda Card). She is on the editorial board of The International Journal of Screendance, part of the Intermedial Composition Research Cell at UNSW, and is a member of the international Performance Philosophy network. She is also a member of the research team Espas (Esthétique de la Performance et Arts du Spectacle) at Panthéon Sorbonne, Paris.
Luis Manuel Carmona Barrio
Luis M. Carmona Barrio was born in San Sebastián. He studied piano at the Conservatorio Superior de Mùsica in Madrid and composition in New York. He has been working in Europe, U.S.A. and Japan as dance accompanist and composer with such artists as María de Ávila, Carmen Roche, Victor Ullate, Azari Plizetski, Elisabth Corbett, Jean Claude Gallotta, Anne Teresa de Keersmaker, David Zambrano, Susanne Linke, Milton Myers, Risa Steinberg, Wim Vandekeybus, with the José Limón Dance Company, the Jennifer Muller Company, the Compañía Nacional de Danza, P.A.R.T.S., IMPULSTANZ Wien.
He has been working for 25 years at the Institut del Teatre, Barcelona where he has elaborated the "Analisys of Music Applied to Dance" that is teached at the Conservatorio Superior de Danza, Barcelona.
Furthermore he composed several pieces for film, dance, theatre, Luis Carmona Barrio has recorded several CDs and currently he is recording his own piano pieces.
Massimo Carrano, as a percussionist, has been involved, for the last 20 years, in an intense musical career in groups and as a soloist, with some of the most important groups in Italy and abroad.
In the context of baroque music, Carrano has worked with leading international ensembles under the direction of René Jacobs and Alessandro De Marchi. He has also collaborated with the Köln Concert and the Ensemble Arpeggiata.
Over the years he has collaborated with artists such as Teresa De Sio, Mimmo Locasciulli, Ornella Vanoni, Fabrizio de Andrè, Karl Potter, Massimo Moriconi, Mariapia De Vito, Rita Marcotulli, Nuova Compagnia di Canto Popolare.
He has also been involved regularly as a collaborator with the composers Luis Bacalov, Germano Mazzocchetti, Nicola Piovani Ambrogio Sparagna and Alessio Vlad.
Massimo Carrano has composed and performed music for the choreographers such as Felix Ruchert, Lucina De Martis, Choronde, Hal Yamanouchi, Paolo Proietti, Gisella Speranza Johnson and Caterina Genta. He has also played for dance stages run by Jean Godin, Finola Cronin, Felix Ruchert, Bob Curtis and David Parsons.
He is percussionist and lecturer at the Accademia Nazionale di Danza, Rome.
Born in Toulouse, Laurent Choukroun, studied at the Regional National Conservatory.
Soon after, he was hired as a pianist in charge of rehearsing ballet classes at the Opéra de Paris (Chef de chant) and has been working there ever since. Laurent Choukroun developed an authentic method of interpretation of the movement applied to all kinds of dance giving complete freedom to the dancer. This application serves to create a good harmony and understanding between ballet teachers and musicians.

With the Opéra, Laurent Choukroun is responsible for the training of pianists accompanying ballet classes as well as the preparation of the accompanying pianist state diploma. He also organises and leads training courses on the interpretation of movement.
Laurent Choukroun has had the honour to work with numerous famous international ballet stars and has been working in very close collaboration with Claude Bessy, all Paris Ballet Stars and a lot of famous dancers all over the world for many years. He has gained his experience through his many business trips abroad and in France, his international training courses, world famous competitions and of course his work at the Opéra de Paris.
Vinicio Colella graduated with a degree in organ, organistic composition and piano.

#Paolo Demitry is a pianist and a composer. After having graduated from "Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia", Rome, he started to explore the relationship between acoustical instruments and electronic music, focusing on the interaction between sound and image.
In 1990 he won the Trento Cinema - La Colonna Sonora contest, chaired by Ennio Morricone, for a work on some unpublished fragments of Roberto Rossellini's movie.
In 1997 he joined the Compagnia CMP Michele Pogliani as project creator and composer of several works commissioned by Romaeuropa Festival, Montpellier Danse, deSingel Antwerp, The Place London, Suzanne Dellal Center Tel Aviv, Festival Internazionale Inteatro Polverigi, AddaDanza, La Versiliana Festival, Civitanova Danza.
Furthermore he composed music for Balletto di Toscana, Teatro Nuovo Torino and for the choreographer Adriana Borriello.
In 2004 he was a co-founder of the PIDYEFFE Coolective, a musicians and dancers' collective, whose goal is the merger of the hip hop underground culture and the contemporary dance.
Besides his work as composer Paolo Demitry collaborated as accompanying pianist with such choreographer as Ismael Ivo, Birgit Cullberg, Adriana Borriello, Cristiana Morganti, Beatrice Libonati, Nina Watt, Susana Hayman.
Since 2001 he has been lecturer at the Accademia Nazionale di Danza, Rome.
Federico Di Maio
Federico Di Maio, after having graduated in 2007 from "Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia", Rome with a percussion degree, specialized in transverse flute. In the later years he focused on music in choreographic experience.
In 2011 and 2012 he was in China at the “Bejing Dance Academy” as a collaborator with Dino Verga, Adriana Borriello e Valeria Diana.
He has been involved regularly with choreographer such as Nina Watt, Dino Verga, Gigi Caciuleanu, Dominique Mercy, Adriana Borriello, Elsa Piperno, Laura Martorana, Cristina Caponera.

Composer and pianist, Philip Feeney (b.1954), studied composition at the University of Cambridge with Robin Holloway and Hugh Wood, and later with Franco Donatoni in Rome at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia. He is best known for his work in dance, which he first encountered in Italy and has since worked with many companies, including Northern Ballet Theatre, Rambert Dance Company, the White Oak Project and the Martha Graham Company. He has collaborated with many choreographers including Michael Pink, Didy Veldman, Michael Keegan-Dolan, Derek Williams, David Nixon, Adam Cooper and Sara Matthews, and his works have been performed by dance companies as diverse as Northern Ballet Theatre, Rambert Dance Company, Cullberg Ballet, Boston Ballet, Fabulous Beast, Scottish Dance Theatre, in addition to more than forty works for Ballet Central.
From 1991-95 he lectured in composition at Reading University. He is currently composer in residence for Ballet Central and has been a longstanding accompanist at the London Contemporary Dance School.
Alain Franco was born in Antwerp. He graduated in piano and music theory in Belgium and Tel-Aviv and obtained as well a post-master degree at the Ircam-Ehess Institut of Paris in XXth century Musicology.
His genuine interest for Contemporary Music and Art (both as pianist and Conductor) resulted primarily in collaborations with leading ensembles and musicians in Europe, among these Ensemble Modern, Ictus Ensemble, Liege Philharmonic Orchestra, Lyon Opera Orchstra, Brussels Opera Chamber Orchestra.
In addition to that – and as an esthetic and artistic extension of his practice - he progressively developped an original reflection on representation and Performance .This lead to artistic collaborations with performers, choreographers and theater directors such as Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Meg Stuart,Thomas Plischke, Kattrin Deufert, Jan Lauwers, Romeo Castellucci, Isabelle Schad, Benjamin Vandewalle, Arkadi Zaides, Daniel Linehan.
He is currently lecturing and curating at the P.A.R.T.S Research Cycle (Brussels), teaching at the Liege Conervatory – and works as musician, performer and music dramaturg on several stage and choreographic projects.
He lives in Brussels and Berlin.
Kim Helweg is a danish pianist and composer.
Since 1983 Kim Helweg has been regular supported by the Danish Arts Foundation. His music has been regularly performed in Europe, North America, South America and in South Korea, and since 1992 his works have been commissioned from Italy, Canada, Argentina, Brazil, Finland, Germany, Holland, Sweden, USA and England. The CD-labels are Chandos, Olympia, Rondo, Focus, IRCO and Classico among others.
Collaborations with different choreographers are an important part of his musical activity. He has composed "Eidolon" for Rambert DC, "Cupid and Psyche" for The Royal Danish Ballet and several compositions for the Danish choreographer Jens Bjerregaard: "Divided in three", "Spiri", "Silent Tales", "Nothing Florid" and "The Labyrinth".
Among the later works are: "Nothing Florid" (2005), "RAUM" (2006-07) . for the choreographer Jens Bjerregaard and Ballerina/Danseur Noble" (2009) for The Royal Danish Ballet with choreography by Kim Brandstrup.
Kim Helweg Kim Helweg is the Head of the Musical Accompaniment for Dance education (MAD) at the Scenekunstskole, Copenhagen.
Dr. Suzanne Knosp began studying piano at age 5 and has worked in the field of dance for over 30 years. She is a Professor of Dance and Music Director for the School of Dance at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona where she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in music and dance and accompanies dance technique classes. She has worked with notable artists such as Ben Stevenson, Ben Vereen, Edward Villella, Bill Evans, Basil Thompson, Ann Hutchinson-Guest, Francoise Martinet, Melissa Lowe, Amy Ernst and many others.
In October 2015, she received the Louis Horst Award from the International Guild of Musicians in Dance for outstanding contributions to the fields of music and dance.
Her work with dancer Melissa Lowe includes three DVDs distributed internationally on the KULTUR label. Her ballet and contemporary scores and recordings for dance class are available from Princeton Book Company Publishers and on Amazon. For 10 years, she was a member of Crossing Barriers, an experimental improvisational group directed by internationally known double bassist, Patrick Neher.
Dr. Knosp is a specialist in the research, education and training of dance musicians. She has created the curriculum for the MM in Dance Accompaniment in both piano and percussion performance. She has lectured and performed at numerous national and international festivals and conferences and is an active member of NDEO, Music Teachers National Association and is Past-President of the International Guild of Musicians in Dance. In 1988, she received a DMA in piano performance pedagogy from the University of Iowa where she was a student of Kenneth Amada.
Karen has spent the major part of her professional career encouraging excellence in music for dance. She has worked for many of the UK Ballet companies whether as a staff member, freelance musician or contract player.
Her work with Scottish Ballet has spanned 20 years and in the past 10 years has been coaching young musicians in a unique postgraduate Master of Music programme in association with the Scottish Ballet Company and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
Karen worked as a contract musician with Birmingham Royal Ballet and a freelance player with The Royal Ballet. She has worked as freelance Class musician for visiting dance companies at the Edinburgh Festival where, over the years, she played for American Ballet Theatre, Mark Morris Group and Rambert Dance.

He has composed the music for several theatrical works both in Italy and abroad. He has also conceived and realized the music for multimedia installation projects.
Marco Melia is pianist, percussionist and lecturer at the Accademia Nazionale di Danza, Rome.
Since 2011 he has been teaching at the MM Maestro Collaboratore per la Danza at the Conservatorio A. Casella, L’Aquila.
Ivan Mijačević (*1979, Ptuj, SFRY), maker, performer and educator in the fields of music, performing and visual arts, currently residing between Cologne, Ljubljana and 'everywhere', whose rudimentary interest is the paving of conditions for solidary communities, holds an MA (2015) in Dance Dissemination (mentor Martin Sonderkamp) from the Academy of Music and Dance Cologne and a diploma (2008) in choreography and dance performance (mentor Susan Rethorst) from the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance (SEAD). He studied music pedagogy (1998-2004) at the University of Maribor and classical piano performance (1998-2000) at the Maribor Conservatory of Music and Ballet. He is a 2005 danceWEB scholarship recipient, a founding member of The One And Only Slovenian Contemporary Dance Company (2008), Dance Party (2011) and inability crew (2014), and a member of art collectives SZ3, Two Kings and a French Town, con/temporary choreo-graphics, danceCO, MDMI and Task 15. His teaching on the relations of music and dance involves, among other institutions, cooperation with the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance, Academy of Music and Dance Cologne, Academy of Music and Performing Arts Frankfurt, Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, Dance Academy Ljubljana, Contemporary dance High school Ljubljana, World DanceSport Federation, Carmina Slovenica, Tanzfabrik Berlin, Drama Teatro Modena and Yasmeen Godder Studio.
Mounir Saeed born in Cairo in 1987. He studied from 2008-2011 at the ‘Cairo Contemporary Dance Workshop Program’, initiated and produced by Studio Emad Eddin Foundation and curated by Laurence Rondoni & Nevine EI Ibiary. He also trained with the dancer, teacher and choreographer Karima Mansour. He also did some residencies in The Netherlands ( Dancing on the Edge ), Sweden, France ( Les Bancs Publics ) and Italy. Mounir has choreographed several works. His solo’s:
“Blood under water voices”, “The Hanging man”, “The Game”, “The other and me”, “Maybe” and “Small Story” In 2009, Mounir won the first price with “Game” of 10th International Modern Dance Festival of the Cairo Opera House at the “Open Air heater.
and group pieces “View the dead Art Performance”, “Street” and “Don’t make me hurt you” which was the last performance in September 2012.
After graduating in piano and conducting, he studied composition and musical analysis with E. Alandia, T. Procaccini e J. Estrada.
As an accompanist of opera singers he has appeared in such venues as Teatro Bellini, Napoli, Teatro Lirico Sperimentale, Spoleto, Teatro Verdi, Sassari. As a conductor he has worked with the Orchestra da Camera Arcangelo Corelli and the Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma, Moreover he has conducted opera repertoire in several theatre, including Teatro Carcano, Milano, Teatro Comunale, Treviso, Teatro Comunale, Sulmona, Teatro Donizetti, Bergamo, Teatro Nazionale, Miskolc, Teatro Verdi, Firenze and in the concert seasons of Palazzo della Cancelleria and Oratorio del Gonfalone.
As a pianist for dance he has extensively worked at Teatro dell’Opera, Rome and he has been involved in collaborations with such dancers as F. Bartolomei, L. Calizza, L. Comi, V. Derevianko, V. Litvinov, A. Molin, R. Paganini, M. Pierin, R. Pedrazzini, Z. Prebil, T. Rigano, E. Terabust, M. Trajanova, V. Vassiliev.
He is pianist and lecturer at the Accademia Nazionale di Danza, and since 2011, lecturer in the “Maestro collaboratore per la Danza” a MM programme in association with Accademia Nazionale di Danza and the Conservatorio “A.Casella”, L’Aquila.
Keith Terry is a percussionist/rhythm-dancer/educator whose artistic vision has straddled the line between music and dance for more than four decades. As a soloist he has appeared in such settings as Lincoln Center, Bumbershoot, NPR’s All Things Considered, PRI's The World, the Vienna International Dance Festival, and the Paradiso van Slag World Drum Festival in Amsterdam.
His groups –Slammin All-Body Band, Crosspulse Percussion Ensemble, Professor Terry’s Circus Band Extraordinaire, and Body Tjak (with I Wayan Dibia)– have performed in a variety of venues, including Joe’s Pub, WNYC, and Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors (NY); Grand Performances, LACMA Jazz, and the Roxy, (LA); Vancouver Island MusicFest, and the Bali Arts Festival.
In addition, Keith has performed with a wide range of artists including Charles “Honi” Coles, Turtle Island Quartet, Jovino Santos Neto, Barbatuques, KeKeÇa, Kenny Endo, Freddie Hubbard, Tex Williams, Robin Williams, and Bobby McFerrin.
As a producer he has released on Crosspulse Media: 6 CDs and 5 DVDs, plus the Book / DVD, "Rhythm of Math", a unit for teaching mathematical concepts for grades 3-5 using Body Music.
Keith tours extensively in the Americas, Asia, and Europe. From 1998 to 2005 Keith was on the faculty at UCLA’s Department of World Arts and Cultures, where he designed and taught a dozen courses on the relationship of music and dance. In 2006 he conceived and directed the first International Body Music Performance Project for the Orff Institute in Salzburg, Austria. In 2010 Keith was on the Dance Program faculty at UC Berkeley.
Keith Terry is the founding Artistic Director of the International Body Music Festival (IBMF). Launched in 2008, this annual, six day festival explores the language of body music from culture to culture and has been produced in the US, Brazil, Turkey, Indonesia, and this year in France. In 2010 Keith directed and performed in IBMF’s “Americas” concert for the Lincoln Center Out of Doors Festival in New York. Keith is a 2008 Guggenheim Fellow, as well as the Founding Director of Crosspulse, a 38 year-old, Oakland, California –based, non-profit organization dedicated to the creation and performance of rhythm-based intercultural music and dance. Crosspulse is the producer of the International Body Music Festival.
